I'm sure someone can improve on my version, but for now, this should hopefully be a good starting point. If you can't find the parts that I have suggested, try to find something similar based on the measurements and ease of use. I figured that many people out there are also still using a PS3 Eye camera with OpenTrack, or FreeTrack, or TrackHat, or FaceTrackNoIR, etc., so I thought I'd create a simple, albeit crude, graphic tutorial for those who are interested in using an external camera IR filter and making this adapter themselves. After that, with the generous help of 1PL-Husar, I got Opentrack working well, and haven't looked back (except to check my six )Įven though EDtracker has caught my attention recently now that it works with RoF, I'm still using OpenTrack with my DIY TrackIR setup for the time being. I came up with a solution that worked much better for me and looked nicer. Once the camera filter arrived, I tried to set it up on my camera using elastics as per the picture that EmerlistDavjack provided, but found that it wasn't an ideal solution, because the filter would fall off with any movement of the camera. Before it arrived, I opened up my PS3 Eye camera and removed that crappy floppy disk, then reassembled the camera. So, great advice in hand, I ordered a camera filter off ebay. To quote him directly with what ultimately caught my attention and became the solution to my problem, he wrote: " Stop messing around with overexposed films and floppy disks and buy an IR Pass filter"! He couldn't have been more correct, because it works nicely! ![]() ![]() I started to think it was my LEDS or my assembly, but then I came across a helpful thread written last year by EmerlistDavjack - In his thread, he suggested using an actual camera 850nm IR pass filter. I had done the mod that removes the IR blocking filter in the camera, replacing it with floppy disk as was recommended by many people, but it didn't work for me. PS3 Eye Camera External IR Filter Adapter.jpg 78.61KB 40 downloadsĮarlier this year, while trying to get my DIY TrackIR working using a PS3 Eye camera, I struggled to get my infrared LEDs to light up in programs such as Opentrack or Freetrack, etc. There are cheaper and even free head tracking equivalents that use your webcam or PS3 eye camera, I tried FaceTrackNoIR before getting TrackIR but it was very early in development at the time, I do not know if it has improved but it was nowhere near as good or user friendly as TrackIR back then and Vjoy (software FaceTrackNoIR relies on to function) used to give me no end of trouble, Best answer I can give here is "Google is your friend"Īs for other products there is the RailDriver a cab controller and the new PBC and various modular switches over on Alan Thomsons site all come with differing opinions on immersion and realism I personally have the RailDriver and I like it so it was worth the money as far as I'm concerned.Įdit: To add on to Answer 6, this looks quite interesting though some report it's more fiddly to initially set up and calibrate than TrackIR, worth a look though > DelanClipThis is a How-To for making your own PS3 Eye camera external IR filter DIY adapter. (and probably a few others I can't think of right now)įor a list of supported games look here > TrackIR/gamesĦ. It works on the World of Subways series, Trainz, I can't truly answer this question but I'd genuinely be surprised if it didn't work for all other Train Sims because it works flawlessly for me personally in the following games. Me personally a 100% yes, this tool is a game changer, no exaggeration, if you do get it you'll wonder why you didn't sooner. TrackIR isn't natively supported but does not require anything from TS to run anyway, you start the TrackIR software up prior to running TS and it works, as I'm writing this answer I guess in a way it is supported by TS as it works with in-cab view (1), head out cab view (Shift + 2) and passenger view (5) whereas in out side views (2,3,4,6 & 7) and free cam (8) you revert back to mouse controlĤ. camera and an LED (if you go for the pro or a reflective cap clip only if basic version) 3 point emitter and has its own separate software, nothing to do with the computing of this or any other game.ģ. Absolutely and definitively not, it's an I.R. Irrelevant question really because it's the same as asking is this mouse or keyboard compatible with every DLC, this question is answered by answer number three, but I'll answer it anyway TrackIR is definitely not impacted by any of the near 200 DLC I own.Ģ. As a TrackIR owner for around a decade I may be biased but you asked so.ġ.
